Too Short and Very Sweet

Life is short,
like the exhalation of a breath.
The grain of sand on a windswept
beach is more visible
than a single life.
And yet,
we grasp life’s tenuous hold
like a hand extended to us
over the edge of a cliff.
Without each piece of sand
there would be no beach.
Without each star in the sky
there would be no Milky Way.
Life is precious
as we embrace it.
